FOX 10 and weathercaster Dave Munsey started the Valley’s first drowning prevention program more than 26 years ago in response to the alarming number of children who drown each summer.
“Just You Watch your Kids Around Water” has saved thousands of lives – and it’s all about awareness. During each and every of Dave Munsey’s weathercasts, he says, “just you watch your kids around water” to keep drowning prevention at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
FOX 10 also makes fun water-safety coloring books for children and sponsors an awareness campaign and every summer talking to parents about the importance of always – ALWAYS – keeping an eye on children as you play around water. And the program has been very successful; in 2006, the Valley celebrated the first summer season without a drowning!
Keep coming back for water-safety events created by FOX 10.

The 7th Annual Walk to End Domestic Violence
November 8, 2009
The Walk will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. at Wesley Bolin Plaza, in downtown Phoenix and will benefit local domestic violence shelters Arizona. The Arizona Foundation for Women is proud to host the 2009 Walk to End Domestic Violence in collaboration with the 2009 Phoenix 10K (formerly known as the New Times 10K). The Phoenix 10K is the longest running 10K in Arizona, and is one of the longest running 10K’s in the nation. In its 34th year, the Phoenix 10K typically consists of over 8,000 participants and an additional few thousand spectators. This collaboration will allow for the Walk to End Domestic Violence to assume the existing 5K Walk at the Phoenix 10K event. This partnership will assist them in reaching their goals of generating a much greater awareness of domestic violence in the community and raising more funds for domestic violence shelters and programs in Maricopa County. While this collaboration requires the DV Walk to move from April to November, the components of the DV Walk will remain the same, including the Team structure and participants walking or running. Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, moving the DV Walk to November is a wonderful way to conclude all efforts supporting domestic violence awareness in October. For complete information about this exciting event, please visit www.Phoenix10K.com. We look forward to seeing you in November at the 2009 DV Walk!.

Memory Walk 2009
November 14 , 2009
The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against this fatal disease. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $260 million for the cause. Memory Walk is a fun and inspiring event that helps the Alzheimer's Association fulfill its vision to create a world without Alzheimer's disease. It is also a wonderful chance to pay tribute to and honor those who have been touched by Alzheimer's. And, most importantly, it is an opportunity to be part of the solution to ensure that no one faces Alzheimer's disease alone. Memory Walk is a community event that joins friends, family and co-workers as they walk to end Alzheimer’s. This year’s Memory Walk takes place on November 14th at Wesley Bolin Plaza. Registration begins at 7:30 AM and the 3 mile walk through downtown Phoenix begins at 9 AM. Participants typically register in teams of 10-12 and fundraise using tools supported by the Alzheimer’s Association. There is plenty of free parking available around Wesley Bolin Plaza. Follow the signs and parking volunteers will direct you where to park. Due to the large number of participants, we strongly recommend carpooling whenever possible. This reduces the amount of traffic congestion and ensures that all walkers arrive at the event area in a timely manner. We also recommend that you arrive early, as portions of Jefferson, Washington, and Adams streets will be closed due to the walk. Please, bring your dog(s) to our event! The Memory Walk is a family-friendly event, and loves dogs. In fact, there is a separate dog registration, so our four-legged supporters can also walk for the cause! Join thousands of Memory Walkers from in and around the Valley of the Sun as we MOVE to end Alzheimer's. All Memory Walk donations benefit the Alzheimer's Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. For additional information and to register, please visit http://memorywalk2009.kintera.org.
