WSU student killed in crash was set to donate kidney

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Twenty-three-year-old Diamond Scott died in a car crash after she was hit by another car that ran a red light. The other driver is still in a coma, but there's another victim in this tragedy. Scott was preparing to donate a kidney to a fellow church member.

She was originally tested in hopes of donating a kidney to her mother, who lost hers in a car accident more than 20 years ago.

Diamond wasn't a match but decided to try to help Ronald, a member of her church. A medical mistake at birth left Ronald with only one kidney, so the 20-year-old goes to dialysis three times a week.

But, after the tragedy Monday morning, Diamond's organs are now unable to be used and two people are still waiting for a transplant.

Hopefully, others will be inspired by Scott to donate.

The Diamond Scott Memorial Fund has been set up at PNC Bank to help cover funeral costs.

A vigil is planned at her church Wednesday at 9 p.m. at 12260 Camden at Faith Clinic Church in Detroit.
