Two Homes Collapse In West Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

Emergency Crews were on the scene of a building collapse in West Philadelphia on Monday.

The incident happened at around 12 p.m. when two structures collapsed on the 6000 block of Spruce St.

Officials say the roofs of two rowhomes came crashing down in Philadelphia’s Cobbs Creek section, taking the roof and 2nd floors of both homes with it.

Both homes are occupied; however, authorities believe only one man was inside one of the homes at the time of the collapse. No injuries were reported.

Homeowner Chris Champman’s two champion Scottish Deerhound show dogs went missing after the collapse. A police officer found one of the missing dogs, 3 and a half year old Duncan. Then, Champman was allowed to enter the back of her demolished home through the house next door, along with a member of an animal rescue team. About ten minutes later, they emerged with 2 and half year old Brie. Champman says Brie was afraid of the steps.

Witnesses say the collapse was as quick as it was surprising.

L& I officials say there were no prior reports of complaints or violations on record.

The two rowhomes are completely destroyed and will be demolished.
