WAUKEGAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A precautionary boil order issued Thursday for residents and businesses near Fountain Square in north suburban Waukegan was lifted Friday afternoon.

The cancellation, announced on the Waukegan Public Works Department’s Facebook page, came about 24 hours after officials said a mechanical malfunction at a booster station had led to the precaution.

About 500 residences and businesses near Belvidere and Waukegan roads were included in the order and informed by automated call.
