2 injured during wrong-way crash on freeway

Posted: Updated:
Two people were injured when a wrong-way driver crashed into another car on SR-143 near University on Monday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says they received called reporting a wrong-way driver on northbound SR-143 just before 2 a.m.

According to DPS, the man got on from Loop 202 and drove a half of a mile to a mile southbound on the northbound lanes.

Officers were already responding when the wrong-way driver collided with a second vehicle, so they were able to get to the crash scene very quickly.

Both drivers were injured. We're told the wrong-way driver is in serious, but stable condition and that the other driver has a broken leg, but is in good condition.

DPS is investigating whether speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

Portions of SR-143 and I-10 were closed until 6:30 a.m.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 10 News for updates.
