Wedding Ring, Missing For 30 Years, Found In Tornado Rubble

Posted: Updated:
Pilger, NE- Residents and volunteers in parts of Nebraska continue to comb through debris and repair damages from the recent twin tornados.

However, they made a shocking discovery in the remains of one man's home.

Longtime resident, Francis Hunke, tragically lost his home, but was able to finally find a long lost treasure.

While digging through the rubble, relief crews came across a wedding ring that belonged to Hunke's first wife. The ring was discovered deep within a pile of bricks, siding and insulation.

The ring was lost for 30 years. Hunke says he never expected to see the ring again..

"I’ll tell you what this is the last thing I thought they would find," he said. "I bought this wedding ring 50 years ago, and I gave between 3-400 dollars for it. My wife was, that would be my first wife, she thought she was washing dishes or something and she lost it there, so I don't know where she really lost it, but they found it in the house today after 30 years since it's been missing."

Hunke says the ring is of sentimental value because his first wife passed away 5 years ago. He plans on giving the ring to one of his two daughters.
