Nuns File Lawsuit Against Chicago Strip Club

Posted: Updated:
Chicago, IL-Dozens of Illinois nuns are staging a protest against their neighbors.

Nuns from the Convent of the Missionary Sisters of Saint Charles say a strip club does not belong in their community.

So, they've slapped the club owners of Club Allure with a lawsuit.

They claim the establishment violates zoning laws, which requires a 1,000 ft. buffer between adult entertainment venues and places of worship.

The strip club says the law does not apply, since a convent is a residence and not a place of worship.

“It tears at the fabric of the community; you have a religious order then a strip club. It's not right,” said Sister Neomia Silva.

Club Allure's owner disagrees.

“This is a difference in ideology. They have the right to do what they believe in, and we have the right to do what we believe in,” said club owner Sean O’Brien.

Sister Silva says the music at night takes away from the sacredness of silence. However, O’Brien says that the club spent a lot of money, making sure their noise did not disturb others in the community.
