PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Singer-songwriter and musician Jewel is holding a unique contest online.  She asked folks across the country to write a song about what "home" means to them.

One musician who also happens to be a fifth generation Arizonan, was picked as a top 10 finalist.

A local favorite, Meagan Gipson is making a move on a national stage.

When the news came to light that she was selected as a finalist in the contest, she wrote a song about what "home" means to her.

"My entry is called "Home is Universal" and I think that's the crux of it.  Everyone can relate, everyone wants to have a home and that's in a feeling, in a little place, in a person in an individual," she said.

Gipson is hoping her entry wins her a chance to meet Jewel and share her love of music with the world.

"I want to be able to touch people's lives. I want to be able to somehow evoke emotion and try to bring out some kind of a message and have people click with that," she said.

The contest runs through June 20.  You can vote once a day online.
