Toddler critical after being pulled from pool

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A 3-year-old girl was found at the bottom of an apartment complex pool after the adult tasked with watching her lost track of her.

The girl was taken to Phoenix Children’s hospital in extremely critical condition. When paramedics arrived at the scene near 43rd Avenue and McDowell, residents of the complex were giving her CPR. It is not known how long she was underwater.

The Phoenix Fire Department says there were several families at the pool with children Sunday afternoon. A mother watching her two sons offered to watch her friend’s 3-year-old. Somehow, the woman watching the children mistook a toddler she was watching with her friend’s 3-year-old. When she realized her mistake she found the girl at the bottom of the pool.

The two boys and the 3-year-old were sharing water wings, which the Fire Department advises against using.
