Posted: Updated:
A Holly Springs police officer administered the department's first dose of Naloxone on Wednesday.

The department recently began using Naloxone, which is a life-saving opiate antagonist. It neutralizes the effects of opiates like heroin.

Holly Springs Sergeant Nathan Ernst responded to a medical call at a home in Morgan Falls subdivision. He found 24-year-old female unconscious and experiencing seizures.

Ernst realized the person was having an overdose and he administered Naloxone and the victim became conscious and coherent

Sergeant Ernst only completed his training six days ago.
