Leaders opposed to new Braves stadium transit funding plan

Posted: Updated:

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A plan to fund a proposed transit line to the new Atlanta Braves stadium has met opposition from several Cobb County leaders.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported Sunday that Cobb County Commissioners Bob Ott, Lisa Cupid and Helen Goreham say they don't' support Chairman Tim Lee's proposal to use a special purpose local option sales tax to partially fund a transit system to the new suburban Atlanta stadium.

The proposed transit system hasn't yet been approved by the commissioners. However, Lee's suggestion called for $100 million of the $494 million tab to be paid through revenue from a new SPLOST.

Commissioners have cited potential costs, the limited reach of the proposed transit system and its potential inability to address existing traffic issues in their opposition.
