Funeral set for Don Davis, CEO and chairman of Michigan's only African-American owned bank

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Don Davis, Detroit banking and music entrepreneur, died on June 5.  He was 75.

Davis was CEO and chairman of First Independent Bank, the only African-American owned bank in the state, which has multiple branches in Detroit.  Black Enterprise Magazine ranked the bank as one of the top African-American owned banks in the nation.

Davis was also a Grammy award-winning music producer.  He was known for his work at Motown Records and for his independent label Groovesville Music/BMI.  He worked with music artist Johnnie Taylor as the producer and writer of the 1968 hit "Who's Making Love," which reached no. 5 on the 1968 Billboard music chart.

Davis is survived by his wife, Kiko, and three children.

Funeral arrangements will be made by Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit.
