D.C. Fire Chief Kenneth Ellerbe confirmed to FOX 5 Wednesday night that he is retiring.  Ellerbe told FOX 5's Will Thomas he'll step down on July 2.

In a phone interview, Ellerbe said he was not pressured to step down, and it wasn't a request.  He said his decision was a personal one.

Ellerbe has come under fire since the death of Cecil Mills, an elderly D.C. man when he suffered a heart attack outside a fire station.  Cries for help from witnesses were ignored.
