PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The baby came two months early, but a 6 year-old didn't panic. She is smart, she did everything she was supposed to do, and helped her mom deliver the baby before paramedics got there.

"She heard me screaming, so she woke up and came in the bathroom, and we just hugged each other, she was praying, she was like its okay mommy, breathe," said Canisha Owens.

Canisha Owens gave birth on her bathroom floor early Sunday morning. Her 6 year-old daughter Janeicea by her side.

"I just wanted to help my momma with the baby, so I just wanted to help really," said Janeicea Armstrong.

Canisha called 911 but was in so much pain, and Janeicea talked to operators.

"She talked to them while I was pushing, and before I know it the baby is coming out, I looked down, I seen her, heard her, and I took a deep breathe in and pushed real hard, and her body started to come, and I reached down and grabbed her, and took the umbilical cord from around her neck," said Canisha Owens.

"When I first saw the baby coming out it was weird," she Janeicea.

911 operators told Janeicea to grab some string to tie around the baby's umbilical cord.

"I just couldn't find no more string, so I just go it from the couch," she said.

That's right. Janeicea cut the fringe off of their pillows on the couch.

"I tried to tie it, but it wouldn't work, it was too yucky, I could even do it," said Janeicea.

Mom helped tie the string as they waited for paramedics and minutes later paramedics rushed the healthy baby girl to the hospital.

"She's really cute, she's like a rainbow in the sky," said Janeicea.

"I heard her in the ambulance in the front seat singing," said Owens.

Janeicea's baby sister weighs 3.5 pounds, Owens hasn't given the new girl a name yet.

"I'm taking my time, I want to pick something real special, she was born definitely in a unique way," said Owens.

As for this 6 year-old she has big plans for her future but that doesn't include delivering babies.

"I do want to be a doctor when I grow up, so maybe not that kind of doctor,"

Janeicea cannot wait to start the first grade and tell her class about the delivery. She's hoping to bring her baby sister to show and tell.
