TEMPE, Ariz. - An Avondale Police animal control officer was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in his uniform and in a department vehicle.

Tempe Police officers received several 911 calls reporting the Avondale Police vehicle driving erratically in a parking lot near Price Road & Broadway.

The callers later reported hit hit a curb and was stuck on a fire hydrant.

Authorities arrived and found 37 year-old Michael Hoffman in his uniform next to his disabled vehicle.

An investigation was launched and officers say Hoffman showed signs of being under the influence. He was arrested for suspected DUI.

Avondale Police say Hoffman will be placed on administrative leave during an internal investigation into the incident.
