Detroit police cars broken into in precinct's parking lot

Posted: Updated:
Four Detroit police cars were broken into late Monday night in the sixth precinct's parking lot.

The perpetrators cut a hole in the fencing around the precinct and went car by car, breaking windows.

All of the expensive radio equipment was left untouched. Police believe they were looking for guns in the trunks of the patrol cars.

"That is not a storage location for weapons. Our weapons are secure at various locations throughout our precincts in the city of Detroit," says Detroit Police Deputy Chief Nene Hall.

Police are reviewing surveillance videos from their lot and neighboring businesses.

Three of the cars have already been moved to repair shops and are expected to be back on the streets soon.
