High School Student Sworn In As Mayor Of Texas Town

Posted: Updated:

Archer City, TX- A Texas high school senior has become Archer City's youngest mayor in history.

18-year-old Kelvin Green was sworn into office on Friday at City Hall.

Green won the election for mayor by default because no one else filed to run for the position.

Green says he's committed to making Archer City the best it can be.

"The city wanted me in this position even though there was not an election." said Green. "It's more or less a childhood dream. As it's gotten closer, I've become more excited, and I'm ready to take on the task for sure."

His teacher agrees that Green will be a good mayor.

"I really think he's going to do an outstanding job and it's exciting to see someone his age step up you know," said teacher Jeff Pirkle.

One of the new mayor's first chores will be to try to find answers to the severe water shortage.
