Weight loss success story: Man loses over 200 pounds

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - As most of us know, losing weight is not easy.  One Phoenix man weighed 419 pounds and then lost half of his weight. How did he do it?

While showing a pair of size 5x pants, Nick Abbatte said, "..one thing I learned in the weight loss business.. it gets expensive buying new clothes."

Abbatte is getting ready to run his sixth marathon.  This is the thinnest he's been in 25 years. He carries the pants with him as a reminder of fatter times.

He wears a size 42 now, but wore a 62 previously.

It's hard to believe Abbatte was 419 pounds.  Now he's always moving, running and working out.

"For me, it was kind of a way of life. I had a problem with weight as an adult."

He lost weight and gained it back and then lost it again.  He was the first guy to lose 100 pounds at Weight Watchers.  He wrote a book to help others called "My Diabetic Chef" and he's a weight loss coach.

His advice: "If you have a weight problem, there are a number of different things you can do.  Don't give up and say you are fat.  Take little steps."

For Abbatte, it's just looking at pictures.
