Escaped prisoner found in Detroit after escaping Sinai Grace Hospital

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit Police say they have found 19-year-old escaped prisoner Kenneth Hickman, holed up on a house on the city's west side. On Wednesday, Hickman was being treated at Sinai Grace Hospital for a gunshot wound sustained during an armed robbery attempt on May 9.

He had initially told the hospital he was the victim of an attempted armed robbery but police investigated and later arrested him.

He escaped from his bed while an officer assigned to him stepped out of the room.

The officer said he thought Hickman was handcuffed down.

Detroit Police Sgt. Samuel Pionessa says authorities were in contact with Hickman's family after he escaped. Hickman's brother was eventually convinced to turn in the escapee, worried about his declining health. Hickman had been at his family's house and was turned over to authorities at a nearby gas station.

No word on the condition of Hickman, but the hospital officials say the wounds he sustained could lead to his death if untreated.
