Elderly man beaten to death in East Village attack

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Police have made an arrest in a fatal attack on a 68-year-old man on an East Village street.

Ruan Wen Hui was walking along East 6th Street between Avenues C and D at around 8:45 p.m. Friday when someone walked right up to him and started screaming and shoving him against the wall.

Hui, who was just a block from his home, fell to the ground.  Police say that Jamie Pugh, 20, of Manhattan then punched and kicked Hui.

Hui died at Bellevue Hospital on Saturday.

In surveillance video, the attacker is seen wearing a patterned collared shirt with short sleeves, dark pants and dark sneakers with white soles.

The NYPD announced that they arrested Pugh on Tuesday.  He was facing murder, robbery and assault charges.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
