Realtors are looking to score on draft day finding homes for new NFL players

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - All the new NFL players will need a place to live in the new city they are to play in. It's a prospect that realtors hope to cash in on as the players sign their new contracts.

A team of realtors watched the draft and have been researching the prospects for weeks, learning who their agents are and where they will most likely go.

When a team got a new player Thursday night, the realty team springs into action to make a new sale.

When the crowd goes crazy, these realtors in Scottsdale get to work.

Ted Petersen with Sotheby's Intl Realty watched the draft and connected with his team of real estate agents in all 32 NFL markets.

"I am in the process of finding out who their agents are, then I'm putting calls out to my agents in those market places as well, and I'm also thinking about who has worked with a player who had a draft pick go that high," said Petersen.

Petersen even turned to social media, interacting with prospects via Twitter.

He's done this for years, finding high-end listings for star athletes and moving them to a new city.

Once he can connect with a player he'll find high-end listings that meet their needs. For example, he could show newly drafted Cardinals player Deonne Bucannon a Mesa Home that was PGA Golfer Mark Hensby's house, it's in the Las Sendas community and it's up for sale.

Some players want that six car garage, an in-game gym, or some just want the basics.

"There's a lot of players, we'll work with those that want a condo, they may realize that they may not want to be here in two years so we do a lot of condo work, we do a lot of short term leasing just for the season," said Petersen.

Thursday was fun for the team, but the real hard work comes over the next few days when they can finally talk to the players about their housing needs.

They will also work with players who get traded to find them a new place to live.
