Police: 2 detained in Glendale home invasion

Posted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale police were called to a home invasion early Wednesday morning near 69th Avenue and Bell Road. A family of five, including two very young children, were the victims and one suspect remains on the run.

Officers say 24-year-old Antonio Yanez and 44-year-old Arthur Meeds are being held on suspicion of armed robbery.

They both were arrested in a wash near 59th Avenue and Union Hills after a police search Wednesday morning.

"It's just a little family.. the man, the wife, their kids," said Brianna Torres, a neighbor.

Residents heard the commotion from the house next door around 7 a.m. -- the same time a burglar alarm sounded, alerting police to a home near 69th Avenue and Bell.

"I heard a lot of.. you know, there was cars taking off, people screaming.. we just didn't know what was going on," said Torres.

Police say when officers arrived, a man and woman were already outside.  The man had minor injuries.  Two children under the age of 2, an adult female and a possible armed suspect were inside.  A barricade was quickly set up in an effort to clear the home and neighbors were told to stay inside theirs.

"As the officer is talking to this victim, the victim all of a sudden see a suspect walk out of the home, he sees police, jumps in a car.. a red 4-door sedan and takes off," said Officer Tracey Breeden.

"Very scary.. someone walk in there.. there's two kids in there and you don't know what's going to happen in the house," said Wilson Khamo, a neighbor.

According to Glendale police, when SWAT entered the home, they found the female who remained inside had been restrained.

The family was assisted by a crisis team and all are expected to be okay.

"We knew they're looking for possibly three or four black adult males," said Breeden.

Police say Cactus High School, Foothills Elementary, Canyon Elementary and Pioneer Elementary schools went on a voluntary lockdown as a precaution while officers searched for the suspects.

The man who fled in the red sedan has not been located.
