PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A team of U.S. Marshals and Chandler Police have taken a man whom they say was in a shootout with officers on Monday.

Authorities took David Gonzales into custody near 19th Avenue & Osborn late Tuesday evening.

Chandler Police say that they initially got called for a report that Gonzales was walking around carrying a rifle. A SWAT team searched the area but was unable to locate him.

They caught up with him later at an apartment complex where he exchanged fire with officers and allegedly carjacked a woman. Officers searched the area where the car was abandoned, but again was unable to locate him.

Gonzales has a long criminal record.  In 2006, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for aggravated assault.  In 2011, another 2.5 years for aggravated assault and probation violations.  Then in November 2013, police say Gonzales tried to flee from officers and crashed his car in south Phoenix.  Police found a gun, which Gonzales was not supposed to have and a stolen credit card.
