Twins take to Target Field after multiple rain delays

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

The Minnesota Twins have already lost two games in the past four days due to rain -- even snow, but even though they were finally back at Target Field on Wednesday night, it doesn't mean the soggy spring didn't affect them anyway.

The rain kept many fans away, but not season ticket holders like Ellen Wolf and Cathy Frank.

"We paid for every pitch, we'll watch every pitch," Frank vowed.

Although the cold and damp wasn't enough to keep the players off the field on Wednesday, fans who braved the chilly conditions to take in some baseball came prepared with tarps and umbrellas -- anything to keep dry.

The ground crews at the open-air stadium had to work hard to get the field ready for play.

"It's frustrating, but there's not much we can do about it," Nick Walz, who has been a part of the ground crew since the beginning, said. "It's all in Mother Nature's hands, really."

According to Walz, this has been one of the toughest stretches of weather he's been through. On a typical day, crews will put down 5 to 10 bags of field dirt -- but on days like Wednesday, they had to call in reinforcements.

After two consecutive rainouts, staying mentally focused is a challenge for the players, but the Twins have been having a little fun with it -- Cloudy with a chance of Baseball.
