Oh boy, the anti-Granholm mob will have fun with this.  They are talking in California about running the former Michigan governor for something as part of the “new generation” of D’s on the west bank.

Schauer campaign plays rapid response game

After the Detroit Free Press took a solid week to examine the charter school system, warts and all, the Democratic candidate for governor smartly responded with a laundry list of reforms.
After the Detroit Free Press took a solid week to examine the charter school system, warts and all, the Democratic candidate for governor smartly responded with a laundry list of reforms.
Perhaps it is too early for brick bats but Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Gary Peters did not appear to be in the attack mode when he filed his petition signatures to earn the right to face GOP U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land this November.

He said nothing negative about her in his opening remarks and if correspondents had not asked him about Ms. Land, he may have avoided her altogether?

This is a guy who has been the target of millions of dollars of negative ads centering on his support for the president’s Affordable Health Care Act.  Apparently the right wingers don't like it.

When asked if Obamacare might be the deciding issue in this neck and neck contest, the Democrat finally brought her into the conversation.

“My opponent has been in a bunker and hasn’t been answering questions and she’s letting a couple of out of state oil billionaires drive the agenda.  This agenda is not about Michigan,” he explained to the media.  Instead he noted it was about basically making rich guys richer.

During the lead-up to the media scrum, one of Mr. Peter’s supporters mentioned the alleged lack of experience of his opponent, but when it came time for him to dove-tail into that topic, he at first punted.

Question:  Does being Secretary of State qualify Ms. Land to serve in Congress?  (She was Michigan SOS for eight years.)

He offered, “I’d like to talk about my record,” but when a reporter suggested he talk about her’s instead, he suggested, “She does not have the wide range of background necessary to represent Michigan…You need someone to hit the ground running in Washington.”

Then in an interesting twist he staked out a position on Detroit bankruptcy that appears to be opposite of that of Democratic candidate for governor Mark Schauer and the state Democratic party chair Lon Johnson.

Mr. Schauer and Mr. Johnson have said they would not have chosen the Chapter 9 route picked by GOP Gov. Rick Snyder preferring instead to call in all the players and hammer out concessions to balance the books in Motown.

Mr. Peters uttered nothing like that and at one point suggested that given a city afloat in red ink, it would be “hard to negoaite the debt without the bankruptcy process.”

He declined to give credit to the governor for going there and explained that bankruptcy alone “doesn’t solve the problem…it would take a combined effort by the public and private sectors” to do that and he concluded saying he was optimistic about Detroit’s future.

As for the apparent split with two of his colleagues, they probably won't acknowledge it.
