PHOENIX -

The Phoenix Pride Parade, which celebrates Arizona's LGBT, rolled through the streets of Phoenix on Saturday.

Spectators found this to be a very special year for the the event, with Mercury player Brittney Griner as the grand marshal and an increase in involvement from local businesses.

30,000 people came out the Phoenix Pride Parade Saturday to celebrate diversity.

Riding in style, Mercury player Brittney Griner fulfilled her duties as Grand Marshall with a big smile and a pageant-like wave.

Griner opened up to the media about being gay right before she became the WNBA's number one overall pick in the 2013 draft.

"It's just been so good because I'm finally being true to myself, being able to help out, help the other people that are struggling with coming out and you know, showing them that yes, it's tough we went through a tought time, but you can make it. I'm living example and proof," said Griner.

Griner says the Phoenix community has embraced her not just as an athlete, but also as a person.

She's thrilled to see the thousands of people coming together to celebrate the LGBT community.

"It's a big deal, you know, for that many people to come out and support and for business to get involved. There's a big movement going right now, especially with the equality rights, marriage rights we're fighting for," said Griner.

Griner isn't the only one to notice businesses stepping up.

Organizers say they've seen an increase in business sponsorships this year.

"It just speaks to how diverse our city is, how diverse businesses are. Everyone is here for one reason, it's about equality," said Christina Martinez, owner of In the Mix marketing and events.

Griner says she's heard nothing but positive feedback about her involvement with Phoenix Pride.
