SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A man escaped with his life after his home went up in flames near Scottsdale Road and McKellips.

"About 30 seconds.. the place was built in 1979.."

64-year-old John Prostman sat covered in a blanket, his clothes, shoes -- all of his belongings for that matter -- burned along with his home of 20 years.

"I walked out and then I thought about going back in, I looked back.  I saw the flames in the back, real high.. I said ain't getting my shoes, socks tonight," he said.

"It was blazing way up high," said Dan Kelm, a neighbor.

Neighbors saw Prostman run out of the trailer around 3:30 a.m., right around the time fire department crews arrived at the scene.

"The trailers are about 50 feet long.  We had about 25 percent of it involved, it looks pretty significant," said Scottsdale Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Chris Shibi.

Because the fire was moving so quickly, neighbors were concerned that it would spread to nearby homes.  You could see just how close the blaze got to the trailer next door.

"I burned my feet walking over here.  My camper was almost gone.  I thought it was going to go on fire," said Kelm.

Prostman says he's okay.  He escaped without injury, but was worried about where he would stay or how he would pay for a new place to live since he doesn't have insurance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  The fire department didn't know if there were smoke detectors in the home.
