PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Police have detained two people in connection with a shooting that left a security guard dead in south Phoenix.

The killing happened at a shopping center near 35th Avenue and Southern.

Police have identified the man who was murdered: Christopher L. Cipolla, 54.

Phoenix police say at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, Cipolla, a security guard at the strip mall, came across two men trying to break into a store.

He chased them off and followed them in his brown Chevrolet.

Police believe the men shot the guard, who crashed near a wall at the edge of the strip mall.

Officers set up a web of yellow police tape around the neighborhood on both the east and west sides of 35th Avenue.

Detectives continue to look for clues.

Just before 6 p.m., police walked out of headquarters with a suspect, 19-year-old Aric Robinson.  Later in the day, 18-year-old Horacio Moppin Herron was detained and booked on a first-degree murder charge.
