Riverside Seeking Renaissance With New Convention Center

Posted: Updated:

Riverside's new beacon of business, a revamped convention center has  just opened for business this month.

Scott Megna, the convention center's general manager says they've already a number of bookings.

The nearly $44 million  makeover went towards expanding exhibit halls and adding more meeting rooms fitted with high-tech capabilities. There's indoor and outdoor space as well as a bustling kitchen churning out the meals.

Chef Brad Martin says, "It's all about hospitality. We want to make sure everyone feels like they're welcome when they come into our home. "

Several hotels just across the street are also benefiting , seeing business pick up compared to the year before.

The mayor of Riverside, Rusty Bailey, says this vibrant downtown sector is bringing life to the city's economy. "With the convention center we also have a busy Main Street and it's like a renaissance here in Riverside. We have a lot going on."

He says the the return on investment will pay for generations to come.
