CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A suspect is in custody Thursday in connection with two attempted bank robberies on the North Side in the last four days, according to the FBI.

The suspect was taken into custody by Chicago Police after attempting to rob a Fifth Third Bank branch at 5501 N. Ashland Ave. about 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to the FBI.

The suspect demanded money but left before getting any cash, FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said.

On Monday, the same man entered the Albany Bank & Trust branch at 3400 W. Lawrence Ave. a few minutes before 1 p.m. and made a threatening demand for money, Hyde said.

He implied he had a weapon, but did not display one, and again, he left without getting any cash, Hyde said. No one was injured in either incident.

The suspect was described as a 60- to 70-year-old black man with a dark complexion, standing 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6 and weighing 200 pounds, according to the FBI.

During the first attempted robbery, he was wearing a black quilted coat and black knit cap with a thin white stripe, according to the FBI.

Hyde said authorities have a suspect in custody and he is being questioned Thursday afternoon.

Chicago Police would not comment on the arrest.
