Phoenix band plays for injured fan; "Jared and the Mill" bring their music to the hospital

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Jared and The Mill is an indie-folk band from the valley.

They recently did a showcase at the South by SouthWest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

One of their biggest fans missed their performance because she was in the hospital.

This weekend, her hospital room became their latest venue; music was her medicine.

The band warmed up in the waiting room lobby, not a typical venue for a private concert.

Mason Endres wasn't planning to hear the band from a hospital room but a car crash changed all that.

Endres is currently recovering from the crash. She has a broken femur, nose, and a fractured neck.

She has had three surgeries since the crash, but she can still sing and tap her fingers to the beat. The music cannot take away her pain, but it's medicine for her spirit.

"I felt so great today, I think the pure excitement and everything has gotten me through today. I felt better than I ever imagined I would feel in the hospital," she said.

Endres became friends with the band at last year's South by Southwest festival. She's kept in touch with them through social media, and that's how they found out she was hurt.

"I'm usually an optimist, but I feared the worst obviously, so I was really happy to find out that she's alive," said Jared Kolesar.

The crash, which happened last Thursday, killed two people and sent 23 to the hospital. Six other people are still in the hospital recovering from severe injuries.

Mason's doctor said Music and this visit will aid in her recovery.

So they sang like they were in front of a thousand people, for the one devoted fan who loves their music so much.

She plans to get the lyrics to one of their songs tattooed on her when she's better.

Music is a big part of her life, she wants to work in the music industry and plans to major in public relations at the University of Texas this fall.
