Man Stabbed During Home Invasion In Torresdale

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police are investigating an overnight home invasion and stabbing in Northeast Philadelphia.

Police say a 54-year-old man was returning to his home on the 9300 block of Walker Street in Torresdale just after 10 p.m. Wednesday when two men followed him in and stabbed him.

The suspects then allegedly stole a large quantity of prescription Oxycodone drugs and the man's iPad.

Investigators say the victim suffers from serious medical conditions. He pushed his medical alert button for help since he has difficulty speaking.

"The victim was able, with some difficulty, to communicate to the police because he has a tracheotomy tube in his neck," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The victim told police there was a struggle once the men got inside his apartment, and according to Small, "One of the perpetrators took a knife from the victim's kitchen and stabbed him one time in the chest."

The victim was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital, where he's listed in stable condition.

Police say they have recovered the knife used in the stabbing, but the suspects remain at large. Anyone with information is urged to call Northeast Detectives.

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce has more details in this video report.
