Spontaneous Tribute to WWII Veteran Goes Viral on Internet

He still fits into his World War II uniform, even though he's 95 years old now.  And he still draws attention when he sometimes wears that uniform to the local San Jose senior center or on Veterans day.  But apparently even Joe Bell was surprised by what happened last weekend as he donned the uniform to sit out on his sidewalk to cheer on runners competing in a local road race that pays tribute to fallen Army Ranger Pat Tillman, a native of San Jose.

It started slowly, but then grew, as runner after runner left the street to stop briefly and shake the hand of the man who fought for our country more than 50 years ago; a spontaneous sharing of kindness, gratitude and  patriotism.

Those moments were captured by  San Jose Mercury reporter  Julia Prodis-Sulek who dashed out with a video camera to capture the sweet moment.
