Emory launching Atlanta-focused speaker series

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Emory University is launching an Atlanta-focused speaker series.

"Atlanta Intersections" is set to kick off March 18 with a conversation with Atlanta-based urban photographer Chip Simone.

The conversation between Simone and Randy Gue, curator of Emory's Modern Political and Historical collections at Emory's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, will be entitled "Photography: The Beautiful Lie."

Simone has lived in Atlanta for more than four decades. He was a founding member in 1973 of NEXUS, Atlanta's first photography gallery. His photos are in the permanent collections of a number of museums around the country.

The interdisciplinary speaker series aims to draw activists, artists, food enthusiasts, historians, musicians, scholars, preservationists and city planning experts to talk about their work, their experiences in the city and Atlanta's influence on their work.
