A High Surf Advisory Is In Effect Through the Weekend

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for most of the Southland throughout the weekend.

The high surf advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday in LA County, and in Orange County until 4a.m. Monday.

A Coastal Flood Warning is also in effect for Orange County until 1 a.m. Sunday.

A large westerly swell associated with this weekend's storm is expected to bring high surf to most beaches across the Southland through Sunday.

The peak of the high surf is expected to take place Saturday morning. Coastal flooding is of concern in low-lying areas along the coastline.

Waves of 8 to 12 feet are predicted, with local sets up to 14 feet at the peak of the surge. The surf is expected to subside by Saturday night through Sunday.

Strong and dangerous rip currents in the surf zone are also expected.

The combination of high surf, high tides, gusty winds, and rainfall runoff has prompted the flood advisory for low-lying coastal areas Saturday morning, especially near the communities of Venice and Long Beach.
