Fallen Officer's Family Receives Dream Playhouse

Posted: Updated:

These playhouses were custom built from the ground up.

The Vice President of Building Industry, Chuck Kananaugh said, "they will have running water, heat, and air conditioning."

The annual revealing event is a combined effort among the Building Industry Charitable Foundation, Kosair Charities and Youthbuild Louisville.

"Each of the Kosair kids met with the builders early in the process and actually told them what they wanted. They were actually designing the houses themselves. It was actually pretty interesting," said Kananaugh

"She wanted it pink and she loves ballerina stuff so they've got ballerina stuff on the walls," explains Kosair Kid's mother, Fadi Mohammed.

This year's lucky playhouse recipients are Hunter Ellis and Jenna Mohammed.

They got to see their new playhouses for the first time Thursday.

"I thought that can't possibly be for Hunter. There's no way. That's not a playhouse. That's a house," said Amy Ellis.

"I had no idea it was going to be this big and that detailed. It's crazy. It's just perfect," exclaimed Mohammed.

Hunter and Jenna are both Kosair Kids and were chosen for different reasons but both families are extremely grateful.

Ellis said, "I just want to thank everyone for the support and these wonderful charities that have chosen Hunter."

The Ellis family has been through a lot.

They lost their dad, Bardstown Officer Jason Ellis, just last year when he was gunned down while on duty.

Ms. Ellis is very thankful and feels blessed that her kids have a place to have fun again and be boys.
