HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The FBI is investigating the Connecticut House Republican caucus and its use of campaign vendor mailings, a probe that prompted the caucus' chief of staff to resign.

House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr. said Thursday the FBI came to the Legislative Office Building Wednesday to interview various Republican representatives.

Cafero said subpoenas were served on the House Republican Office, the House Republican Campaign Committee and the Office of Legislative Management. He said the caucus is "fully cooperating" with the inquiry.

Cafero said George Gallo, the caucus' chief of staff, resigned Thursday, saying he believes he's a person of interest in the investigation. Gallo, a former state GOP chairman, has worked for the caucus since 2007.

An FBI spokesman confirmed the agency "has a presence" at the state Capitol this week.
