Crews rescue couple lost in White Tanks Mountains

Posted: Updated:
MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. -

A couple was rescued from the White Tanks Mountains in the west valley on Tuesday morning.

An 84-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife were hiking on Monday when it got too dark for them to see, so they waited it out and stayed the night. They reportedly had plenty of food and water to sustain them.

But then on Tuesday morning, the couple got lost as they were leaving the park near the Willow Canyon Trail.

The wife had fallen and has minor scrapes to her hands and legs. They called for help around 5:30 a.m.

The Maricopa County sheriff's office helicopter found them, but could not land in the mountainous terrain.

We're told the man was able to safely walk off the mountain, but the helicopter brought a long line to lift the woman out.

They both seem to be in good condition. They're believe to be from out of town.
