Aspiring young rapper shot in Flint, driven to Royal Oak hospital

Three teenagers in Flint are under arrest after an aspiring rapper from Farmington Hills was shot and killed.

Daren Bowden, 19, was visiting Flint with two friends. The group met up with some other people but then they started to feel uneasy, so the friends asked the other guys to get out of the car. Daren's uncle says the friends described it feeling like a "set up." Daren was shot in the back.

The friends drove Daren to the hospital. Daren's uncle says the friends were concerned the suspects might try to follow them and do more harm, so they drove all the way back to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The friends also were unfamiliar with the Flint area.

Daren's uncle says when they got to the hospital Daren was already dead.

His family says Daren had hopes to be a rapper, and was constantly in the studio and promoting parties around metro Detroit. They believe his growing popularity brought out jealousy, which lead to his death.

His parents promise their son was a good kid and call him a "peacemaker."

"He was not violent. He was not a drug dealer. He had a good home. He had a good mother and a father. He had a good support system," mom

FOX 2's Andrea Isom reports three men from Flint, ages 17, 18 and 19, have been arrested and charged in connection with Daren's murder.
