Kean University student murdered near Rutgers

Posted: Updated:
NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - Police in New Brunswick, N.J. are investigating the murder of a man found in the snow on a off campus neighborhood near Rutgers University.

22-year-old Kean University student William "Billy Bob" McCaw's bloodied body was found Saturday morning in an area known for its raucous parties.

People had seen him in the snow hours earlier and mistakenly thought he was simply passed out from over-drinking.

"I thought it was some vagrant who got drunk or a lonely man on Valentine's Day who decided to sit in the snow, but I didn't know it was actual murder, Rutgers student Alfred Cacnio said.

McCaw, a former Rutgers student, would often spend weekends in New Brunswick with the friends he made before changing to Kean.

Friday night, he attended a Rutgers fraternity party with a friend who was DJing, but then McCaw went on to an after party by himself.

"Billy was probably one of the most energetic, fun kids.  He always had a smile on his face," Michael "DJ Mikey" Puerari said.

New Brunswick Police say they got a 911 call around 10:30 Saturday morning from stunned residents who saw his bloodied body lying in the snow behind a house on Hartwell Street. He'd apparently been beaten to death.

Police have not made any arrests and do not believe he had any direct connection to the residents of the house near where he was found.
