Phoenix to honor city employees who died in 2013

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix officials plan to hold a ceremony Thursday to honor three city employees who died in 2013.

The three who died were police Officer Daryl Raetz and firefighters Brandi Schamadan and Brad Harper.

Raetz was fatally injured when a vehicle struck him as he made a drunken driving stop on May 19.

Harper died the same day as a result of injuries suffered the previous day when he was struck by a fire engine and trapped between that engine and his rescue ambulance.

Schamadan died on March 22 from cancer that a lawsuit filed on behalf of her survivors and other firefighters says resulted from chemical exposure on the job.
