CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A teenage boy was shot to death Wednesday night in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Venzel Richardson was walking with two other people in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue about 8:20 p.m. when a white van drove up and someone inside fired shots at the group before driving away, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Richardson, of the 6400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, suffered a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:25 p.m.

No one else was injured in the shooting, which appeared to be gang-related, police said.

An autopsy Thursday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
