SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

They met in the valley but fell in love in Belgium. A valley couple has opened a unique neighborhood spot where they can share their love of chocolate.

The milky drinks, hand crafted chocolate, and the romantic space all made to bring a little bit of Belgium to the valley.

"I have connections I grew up next to a chocolatier and went on from there, and here we are 5 years later married and having a chocolate store," said Frederick Verbeke, owner of Chocolade Van Brudge.

"As an individual you feel at home and warm and cozy and so you have this romantic relationship between the actual shop and the chocolate," said Marion Houghton, an employee at the store.

The idea is to keep it like a traditional Belgian cafe. All of the chocolates names are in Dutch but the explanations are in English.

The couples' story is one of business but also one of love. Frederick and his wife Christine fell in love in Belgium, Frederick's home country.

"When Christine came to Belgium I had a box of chocolates, kind of a chocolate telegram something you give to people when they arrive at the airport something I had specially made for her I greeted her at the airport with that," said Verbeke.

And so they say the rest is history, now that Belgian chocolate can be found in Scottsdale.

One question Frederick and Christine get asked often is whether they have peanut butter and chocolate. The answer is no, they keep things traditional.
