Firefighter injured battling commercial building fire

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

One Detroit firefighter was injured battling a commercial building fire at Farnsworth Street, near Ferry Avenue and Russell Street on city's east side. We're told he was injured when he jumped off a rig to dodge a collapsing wall.

"He basically jumped off the rig. ... It wouldn't have hurt him anyway if he stood there, he would have been fine. But, he jumped off the rig just to protect himself. That's human nature," a fellow firefighter tells FOX 2's Maurielle Lue.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.

This is the second time in a week firefighters have been called to a fire at this location. Last week's fire is believed to have been an arson.

The Detroit Fire Department tells FOX 2 this fire was not a rekindling of last week's fire. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday firefighters were still on scene.
