Sheriff Arpaio conducts active shooter class at a valley school

GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Sheriff Joe Arpaio points to eleven shootings at schools in January as a good reason to ensure his deputies and posse members are trained if needed. MCSO on Saturday held another active shooter training class preparing for a worst case scenario.

The training including everything from fake bullets to fake blood and to those present it felt real as if a shooter was on the school campus targeting innocent students until law enforcement officials stopped him.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and one of his lead posse members Steven Seagal trained deputies for an active school shooter scenario.

"We are not giving up, i'm the elected sheriff, I make the priorities, I feel this is a priority," said Sheriff Arpaio.

"Anything we can do to help the children, children are our greatest treasure in life," said Steven Seagal.

The training started with the shooter getting off a bus at Glendale's Heritage Elementary School. He started by firing shots at students then looked for more victims. Deputies arrived minutes later and began looking for the suspect.

In a second excerise a shooting erupted during a basketball game. The suspect was later seen taken down by law enforcement and authorities were seen clearing the area and looking for additional victims.

Students took part in todays exercise, "it was difficult and it was shocking what bullets actually sounded like for the scene," said Caleb Herrera, a student and actor Saturday.

"It just has to make me really sad and upset that its come to this that we have to have officers got to schools to protect our children from these types of situations its really sad but comforting just in case something happens," said Berbellyn Enriquez, a parent.

Sheriff Arpaio said that he does not support arming teachers but he did call on the federal government to provide more money for school officers.
