Cobb school superintendent announces retirement

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Cobb County school superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa announced plans to retire at a school board meeting Monday night.

The meeting was crowded with parents who were upset over the way the school system responded to last week's winter storm.

Some of those parents criticized Dr. Hinojosa, who they say left work last Tuesday afternoon while many school buses were still on the roads taking students home.

Dr. Hinojosa responded to that criticism, saying "I would have stayed a little longer, but someone had to be in a safe place communicating with our staff."

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Hinojosa said that he has decided to retire at the end of the year.

He indicated that his retirement was unrelated to the criticism over the winter weather.

"It has nothing to do with the snow. I was going to announce last week, but it got preempted by the snow," Dr. Hinojosa said.
