PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Here's a story that will tug at your heart strings.  An injured stray set to be put down for his aggressive nature gets a new leash on life.  He underwent an operation that caused him to lose a leg but it ultimately saves his life.

Meet Boomer a lovable energetic golden retriever enjoying life on three legs a recent amputee who was almost put down for aggressiveness.

"There was a huge plea through the rescue community, another facility had him & he was going to be euthanized with a suspected injury and the rescue community was rallying" said Andra Jeffress.

Andra Jeffress who runs Animals Benefits Club of Phoenix took Boomer into her care. It was determined that the dog had been hit by a car, his pain and agony the likely cause of his unpleasant behavior

"It was a very, very bad blow from a car he had been hit by a car in a very severe manner... attempts were made to save the leg but they could not save it and so it required amputation " said Jeffress.

With his hind leg gone Boomer is no longer in pain according to Jefferess. His foster parents are nurturing him back to health.

He's getting stronger everyday but now boomer needs a forever home...someone who can love him and run around because clearly boomer loves to do just that even on three legs. Boomer's vet care should be limited once he fully recovers from surgery and he would likely do very well in a home with other dogs because he's so social.
