Bill In Senate Would Lengthen Yellow Traffic Signals

Posted: Updated:

Assembly Bill 612 is presently  before the Senate Transportation committee,  That bill would add a second to the current yellow light duration at traffic signals in the state.

The bill was unanimously passed by the California Assembly.

Supporters argue that current yellow light durations are not long enough to allow for proper reaction time by motorists, and they contend that adding a second would not only reduce traffic violations, but also reduce accidents at intersections.

The bill is pending a study by the California Traffic Control Devices committee, which is scheduled to report back to the committee with its recommendations on February 20th.
