Vigil for Mesa man beaten to death, no leads in 5 year old cold case

Posted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

A valley family still looking for justice seven years after a Mesa man is murdered.

With no suspects in the case they're hoping a vigil will help generate some new leads. The family of Randolph Lucero comes together every year on the anniversary of his murder in hopes they can spur on a tip that could lead them to his killer.

"When a case goes unsolved it just has such an impact on the family" said Nadine Thomason, Lucero's sister".

It's been seven years and the family of Randolph Lucero still has no answers as to who killed their dad and brother.

"You just always feel that void and we just want some closure to this and we want to be able to give us some hope that whoever did this will give us closure some day" said Nadine.

Lucero was killed inside his Mesa apartment on January 27th, 2007 sometime after midnight.  His body badly beaten. There was no sign of forced entry and the family says they can't think of who would do this to the man they described as having a larger than life personality.

"He's the kind of person that once you met Randy all it took was to meet him within the first minute you'd have one minute of conversation with him and you'd never forget him" said Nadine.

Every year on this date the entire family make the trek from out of state to the exact location where it happened to remember and hope that this may be the year they'll get a tip that will lead them to Lucero's killer.

"It's frustrating you see each year go by and you think that at some point after seven years that we would have definitely have some clue to get us closer to solving this case but we don't" said Nadine.
