West valley lawmaker proposes changes to Golf Cart laws

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A recent high speed chase in Sun City where the driver weaved in and out of traffic narrowly missing golf carts. One valley lawmaker wants to change the laws to make the roads safer.

This is not something we see everyday, but it does highlight how dangerous it can be when golf carts and cars share the road.

Now one Arizona lawmaker is looking to make the roads a little safer.  Last Summer five people were cited for driving golf carts in the streets, this new bill will make sure that doesn't happen again.

Golf carts and cars, can they share the road? Debbie Lesco of Glendale has introduced a bill allowing residents to drive golf carts on the shoulders of the road.

The bill as introduced will only apply to retirement communities and not everywhere in the state. So far it has passed the house transportation committee with a 6-0 vote.
